Mrs. Barnes' Journey this Year

News about Mrs. Barnes

If your child has been a “Firstie” with Mrs. Barnes, then you know she is one of the most decicated, passionate, loyal, and kind teachers you may ever have the joy of knowing, and we are privileged to have her at Christ Academy. She had been dealing with some health issues for a while, and this past December, she got news from her doctor no one wants to hear.

After a partial hysterectomy, her doctor informed her they were suprised to find they had discovered cancer in her uterus. This shock took a while to sink in and left us all with many questions. Mrs. Barnes, being as dedicated as she was, wanted to make sure she had a plan ready for her recovery as well as her her classroom, to ensure her “Firsties” didn’t lack in their instruction should she have to take a leave.

Through a follow-up CT scan, the doctors determined there were no other signs of cancer present in her body, but out of precaution, they performed another surgery to remove her lymph nodes and completed her hysterectomy. While she hated to be away from her Firsties, she did an amazing job of preparing her lessons for a subsitute to fill in for her absence. Mrs. Barnes worked through fatigue, fear, and her current workload to ensure the best possible experience for her students while she was absent. Her substitute had everything she needed for the class to run smoothly and be are prepared as possible.

Mrs. Barnes’ surgery was a success, and she recovered faster than anyone could have imagined. Her determination to return to school fueled her. We are thankful she did well and was able to join her students quickly. She got plenty of rest and was back to her classroom just after spring break. She joyfully greeted her “Firsties” again each morning and continued to love them and teach with excellence.

Currently, Mrs. Barnes is finalizing her her 25 rounds of radiation, targeting where her cancer had grown. We are prayerful that, after surgery and radiation, no other treatments will be necessary, and she will be completely healed from this awful disease. We are thankful the Lord has carried her and given her strength through all of this. He is mighty!

Please join us in praying this journey is nearing its end for her. Mrs. Barnes has exemplified what it means to be a Warrior through all of this as she puts her trust in the Lord, and He has given her His strength.
