Jr. High Students Get a Taste for Christian Worldview

Baking in Bible?

While Bible is integrated into everything we do at Christ Academy, our Grade 6 students transitioned to Junior High by starting the school year with a lesson on why having the foundation of a Christian Worldview is so essential.

Mrs. Love made the lesson exciting and creative, ensuring it would be one they’d never forget!

According to Mrs. Love, they learned everyone in the world has a worldview. Most people are unaware of their worldviews or the beliefs that make up a worldview. Like a cookie, we may not know exactly what ingredients go into it, but we know it’s a cookie. We also know if the cookie tastes bad, it’s because the ingredients in it are incorrect or something is missing.

The class was divided into groups, and each group was given a chocolate chip cookie recipe that was “different or wrong.” As the students followed their recipe, they figured out their recipe was different than the other groups’ but could not determine what was wrong. Some recipes were missing eggs or flour, while some had added too much vanilla. They also knew that their batter did “not look right.”

She used the cookie metaphor to help explain to students the fundamental beliefs within worldviews: what people believe about God, people, truth, the universe, and right and wrong. These are the “ingredients” that make up a person’s worldview.

In 6th grade Bible class, we will pick apart the cookie and study all the ingredients individually and how the Christian Worldview sees each ingredient. A worldview consists of beliefs about God, People, Truth, Universe, and Right and Wrong.
— Mrs. Love, Upper School Bible Teacher

The next class day, students enjoyed delicious “Christian Worldview Cookies” and Mrs. Love explained why we believe the Christian Worldview contains all the necessary and true ingredients for a right worldview. Mrs. Love creatively and brilliantly demonstrated the need for correct ingredients for a Christian Worldview. It looked and tasted just right!

See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.
— Colossians 2:8
